Simple Instructions For Cute Candy Corn Math Activity
The less complicated an activity is, the more likely I am to actually try it with the kids! There’s 3 of them running around.. complex projects aren’t my friend these days!
Gather these items:
- piece of paper- cardstock or construction paper work best, but printer will be fine in a pinch!
- scissors
- pen
- candy corn
- die (optional)
- notebook (optional)
Trace fairly large math symbols onto piece of paper and have your child cut them out! A plus sign, subtraction sign and an equal sign should do it.
Bonus tip ** If you’re really in a hurry/need it to be extra simple, grab post it notes and write the signs on there!
Use the notebook if you want to record the equations.
Think up some simple math problems or leave it up to fate– roll a die to determine which numbers will go in the equation! This only works in adding/subtracting numbers up to 6 (unless you have one of those fancy 12 sided die)!
Place the candy corn into piles representing the number is the equation with the plus or minus sign in between them. Use this cute candy corn math activity like you would use other math manipulatives– to help them solve the equations! This activity will help with counting, 1:1 correspondence as well as adding or subtracting.
Final Thoughts On Cute Candy Corn Math
Using the notebook to record equations will help them practice writing numbers and equations, but if your kids are frustrated by handwriting or simply uninterested in it, don’t push it. Enjoying math is the real magic here! Don’t ruin it by forcing them to handwrite stuff!!
This cute candy corn math activity is proof that complex, elaborate activities aren’t necessary! This is fun and enjoyable and a good way just to mix things up a bit. Simple games are the perfect way to help little minds grow and it’s nice when they are inexpensive, easy to put together, and don’t create a mess!
