How to Make Fluffy Slime
So what makes fluffy slime “fluffy”? The addition of one simple, common ingredient makes all the difference between sticky slime and cloud-life soft and fluffy slime!
Shaving cream!
We add about 1/2 cup of shaving cream to our favorite slime recipe to achieve the perfect fluffy slime texture without borax or contact solution!
NOTE: You will need about 3-5x as much coloring to achieve a dark color. The shaving cream renders a very light color otherwise.
There are several things about this fluffy slime that I really enjoy.
1. It’s really stretchy! Just look how far this slime can drop without breaking!
That’s something that can be hard to achieve with slime recipes that aren’t sticky. This is usually because when you add more starch to reduce the stickiness you end up sacrificing stretch.
Not with this recipe!
2. It really isn’t sticky! This kind of goes hand in hand with the first point, but I love that it’s not a sticky slime!
My son hates having sticky stuff on his hand, so I had a really find a good balance of flexible and not-sticky before he was willing to play with slime.
This fluffy slime (as well as my 2-ingredient slime) have that perfect balance to avoid being sticky slime!

- 1/2 cup White Glue
- 1/2 cup Stay-flo Liquid Starch
- 1/2 cup Shaving Cream (foam, not gel)
- Food coloring (optional)
-
Add all ingredients to a medium size bowl and mix well.
-
Once mixed, remove from bowl and knead with your hands until it is no longer sticky. This may take a few minutes.
-
If slime is still too sticky, add more starch (about 1-2 tbsp) to a bowl, drag the slime through it, and knead again. Repeat if needed. Add additional shaving cream, if needed, once slime is the desired consistency.
-
Store in an air tight container until too dry to play with (about 2-3 weeks)

Fluffy Slime Recipe FAQ
Can I use shaving cream GEL or LOTION instead?
Not for this, it needs to be the foam kind of shaving cream.
Does fluffy slime last as long as regular slime?
We have found that it does not. It tends to dry up MUCH faster than our regular slime, which can last for months if stored in a mason jar.
Can I use anything other than shaving cream?
You can make edible slime with marshmallows for a somewhat fluffy slime without shaving cream, but in general shaving cream is required for that truly fluffy slime texture.
My fluffy slime is really sticky still?
Add a bit more liquid starch to your mix and work it in with your hands. Once you find the right slime texture, you can work in a bit more shaving cream if needed.
Laurie Martin says
My slime is just a thick liquid. There’s no way I can knead it. I followed directions and amounts exactly as written. What am I doing wrong?
Kandice says
Have you found a way to prevent the liquid leaching after couple of hours of play time? Or keeping it from latching on to clothes?
Victoria says
Yes! If the liquid pulls out of it during a rest period, you can simply work it back in again. The shaving cream does reduce the life of the slime, but it should last for at least several weeks, if not longer. Just work that liquid back in 🙂
Kandice says
Ok I hear that but what about the sticking to clothes? I
