Before my son was born I was crafty. Really crafty. In fact, I owned and ran a full time seamstress business from my home! Every day I would sew for hours and create beautiful things for my clients.

So I naturally assumed that I would be making a ton of gorgeous things for my kiddos when they came…

Uhm, flash forward to real life and that was not happening on 2 hours of sleep a night and near-constant breastfeeding!

I knew that I wanted his first Halloween to be special, but I had zero energy to do anything all that creative, which was of course, crushing for someone who made their living being creative!

But then, during one seemingly endless marathon breastfeeding session, it hit me!

A simple plastic planter, a knitted beanie, and some fake leaves makes the perfect Harry Potter Mandrake costume! DONE!

This is a fifteen minute project with a few materials that cost about $10 total!

And it has the added benefit of being a warm-weather costume for those climates that are still hot in October, like it is here in Texas.

How to Make a Harry Potter Mandrake Costume

Step 1: Grab a large planter pot like this one, make sure it’s plastic because you’ll likely be carrying it around with the baby in it!

Step 2: Grab a knitted hat (color doesn’t really matter, but dark, natural tones would be best) and hot glue your leaves to the front.

NOTE:
Make sure the leaves you get aren’t too heavy. The first ones I tried were WAY too heavy for a baby’s head to be able to support! You can also remove them from the metal stems completely to cut down on the weight.

Step 3: Then just print this tag (below) and tape it to the front of the planter pot!

That’s it!
Now you have a fun, geeky baby costume ready in just a few minutes!
